USA study: Pennsylvania

We had an awesome week studying Pennsylvania! Here is a list of books we read, a craft, and a food that we prepared.

For the Liberty Bell, you need:

foil

toilet paper roll holder

small cup

pipe cleaner

bell

After running the pipe cleaner through the bell and attaching it. Then wrap the foil around the cup making it tight.

Feed the pipe cleaner through the cup and toilet paper and attach them together.

Now you have a completed Liberty Bell!

For our kitchen activity this week, we made Philadelphia cheesesteaks!

First, I fixed a roast in the crockpot. I set it out to cool and then sliced it thinly. Then, I set him to work.

He helped me slice the mushrooms and the onions.

Then I had him put it in the skillet with some bacon grease.

Sauteing away!!

Then, he put the meat in another skillet.

Sauteing it up!

Can you say YUMMY looking!!

Putting it all together!!

Adding it to our bread!

Of course swiss cheese.

Please pay no nevermind to the bread we used! I make homemade sourdough bread and I had left them rising in the oven while we were gone that morning. Well, needless to say, we were gone longer than we were supposed to, so our hoagie rolls flatten out. It was a very yummy dinner though!! Definitely one we will be having again!

Day 296 Luke 10; John 10: John 11:1-54

Jesus sends out the 72 and they return, the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Martha and Mary, the death of Lazarus, and then Jesus brings him back to life.

Day 297 Luke 12-13:30

You will read about the parable of the Rich Fool, Jesus tells us not to be anxious but to be ready, the Parable of the Barren Fig Tree, and the Narrow Door.

Luke 298 Luke 14-15

The healing of the man on the Sabbath, the Parables of the Wedding Feast, the Great Banquet, the Lost Sheep, Lost Coin, and the Prodigal Son.

Day 299 Matthew 19; Mark 10:1-31; Luke 16-18:30

Teaching of Divorce, the children may come to Jesus, and the Parable of the Dishonest Manager.

Day 300 Matthew 20; Mark 10:32-52; Luke 18:31-19:27

Laborers in the VIneyard, Jesus heals 2 blind men, Jesus heals blind Bartimaeus, Jesus predicts his death for the 3rd time, Zacchaeus, and the Parable of the 10 minas.

Day 301 No reading.

When Washington Crossed the Deleware

Our first craft was to recreate George Washington in his military attire.

Then, we made an cherry tree out of a paper bag. (Yes we used apple stickers, but we pretended that they were cherries!!) Cut the bag to about 6 inches down into 3/4 inch strips. Twist the middle after putting a couple pieces of wadded up scrap paper in the bottom to hold it down. Then you twist 2-3 together all the way to the ends. I had some apple stickers, so he put them on his tree. You could just as easy use construction paper and glue them on if you desire.

We also made a Red Velvet Cake. This cake was 1st created at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City around 1900.

Then from the book Draw Write Now, Book 5: The United States, From Sea To Sea, Moving Forward he drew the Statue of Liberty.
