Lesson 97 The Second Triumvirate

Making a Roman Mosaic out of construction paper.

Lesson 98 Cleopatra

For this lesson, we made crazy construction paper crowns!

Lesson 99 Herod the Great

     For this lesson we discussed the gifts that the wisemen brought to Jesus.  I even learned in this lesson!!  

Gold was brought and symbolized a gift fit for a king.

Frankincense was used when the Israelites offered sacrifices.  Hence, Christ was the sacrifice for our sins.

Now, here is what I learned!!   Myrhh was used as an ingredient for embalming people.  It helps preserve the body.  Well, Christ's body rose in 3 days and never decayed!  All of these gifts symbolized what was going to happen to Jesus!

Mystery of History Volume 1 Lessons 94-96

For this lesson we made a paper mache Roman helmet.

For this lesson, we painted the helmet that we created in lesson 94.  It was kind of a good fit for both lessons as Julius Caesar would have worn one also!

Lesson 88 Emperor Asoka of India

Yep, this one is a reach.  But, what I planned out last year for this lesson, I have no idea where I got my idea from because it had absolutely nothing to do with this lesson!!  So, this was what he wanted to do.  The top is a picture of the Banyan Tree and the bottom is of the roadside rests of today with part of the car.

Mystery of History Volume 1 Lessons 85-87

Lesson 85 Alexander the Great 

I gave him the book Draw Right Now #1  and draw the horse out of it.

Lesson 86 The Division of Alexander's Empire

I had him paint the Alpha sign and the Omega sign.  We discussed the verse.

Lesson 87 Archimedes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria

For this lesson we did Water Displacement as the book suggests.

Instead of everyone getting in the bath tub, I took 3 different sizes of Pyrex bowls.

Yep, they even had food in them!!

I put the masking tape in the sink and put water in it.  Then we marked where the water came up to at each bowl.  You need to do the biggest first!  We made the mistake and started with the smallest and our lines didn't last, so we had to start over!

.Well, I have been trying for a few months to come up with crafts to use up some of my hundreds of used canning lids!  Bingo!!  I cut out the material using some left over felt.  Then, I drilled the canning lids and attached them to the material with thick string.  I also attached some ties to both sides.  Presto!  Armored vest!

Mystery of History Volume 1 Lessons 76-78

Lesson 76 Socrates

We learned that Socrates son cut his hair in memory of his father.  Conner lost his rabbit this week, so I cut his hair in memory of Lexie.

Lesson 78 Ezra and Artaxerxes

We did a little experiment about keeping God close to us, unlike what we learned about in this lesson.  The foreign ladies that the men married took them away from God.

I took 2 folding chairs and attached a rope the first time.  He tried to walk to the other chair!

As soon as he stepped on the rope, the rope gave way.  This is like when we stop going to church or worshiping God, it effects our relationship with God and with others.

I then put a 2x4 between the 2 chairs and had him try walking to the other chair.

But, when we put God in control (the 2x4) we have a stronger relationship and connection with God and others.

He made a boat and put his oars on 3 different levels!

Turned out fairly good!!

He made a mask, like the men would have worn during the plays!
