Series: Bible in a Year with your Kids Week #6-FREE Pack

It has been another crazy week here!  We were back in the Children’s Hospital for 3 days because he stopped breathing again.   They think it could be seizure related, but we will see.  Tuesday morning was a weak time for me.  While Ezra was sleeping, I pulled up the online ESV Bible and allowed God to show me His word.  Here is where I was brought to:
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:4-7
I am truly blessed with the peace God gave me when I read  this!  It was like waves of peace just took over and my strength was there!  I love God and his awesome irresistible grace.

This week we will continue on with Exodus.  I did forget one thing last week, if you have chosen to memorize the books of the Bible in order like we are; you need to add Exodus to your board!

If you want to catch up with us or need more information, please go to this link.

Day 36 Exodus 5-9
In these chapters, we will learn about the first 7 plagues that God sent to the Egyptians.
In Moses first encounter with Pharaoh, he asked if the Israelites could go on a three day journey to sacrifice in the desert.  Of course Pharaoh said no and then asked that there be no hay brought to the Israelites for their brick making.   They were forced to travel the countryside to find it.  The Israelites were weak; they did not fully trust God.
On Moses and Aaron’s second encounter, God told them that he would harden Pharaoh’s heart.  To prove to Pharaoh that God was the true God, he put his staff down and it became a serpent.  Of course the magicians were able to duplicate this, but Aaron’s staff swallowed up all of the other staffs.
The plagues that God put upon the Egyptians cut at the core of their religion.  In the first plague, God turned the water turned to blood.   This plague lasted 7 days.  The Egyptians had to dig new wells to get water to drink.   The magicians were able to replicate this act.
In the second plague,  God sent the frogs by the millions.  The magicians could replicate this plague also.  In the third plague, Pharaoh had no warning.  God sent lice to cover all man and beast.  The magicians could not change dust into lice.  They then knew that this was the hand of God causing these things.
In the fourth plague, God sent flies.  Beginning with this plague, God separated the Egyptians from the Israelites.  This was so the Egyptians would know that the God of Israel was sending these plagues.
In the fifth plague, God sent a plague over all the livestock of the Egyptians.  The Egyptian livestock died, but the Israelites’ livestock lived.
In the sixth plague,  ashes were thrown up into the air and became boils on the Egyptian people and animals.  This caused the magicians to leave since they looked so terrible.
In the seventh plague, God sent hail.  God had given warning for this one.  He had said to take the livestock in.  Those who feared the Lord did as he commanded.  This plague also destroyed he trees, plants, barley, and flax.

Day 37 Exodus 10-13
In the eighth plague, God covered the whole land with locusts.  Every green thing was destroyed at that time and Egypt became a desert.
In the ninth plague, God sent a special darkness.  This is like a picture of death.  This darkness could be felt and lasted three days.  The Israelites had a special light in their homes.
In chapters 11-12, we learn about the Passover.  Moses instructed the people of Israel what to do.  On the tenth day, they were to chose a perfect lamb (a picture of Christ), one year old, and separate it from the rest.  On the 14th day, they were to kill the lamb and catch the blood.  With hyssop, they were to use the blood and put on both sides and the top of their doorways.  They roasted the lamb over a fire with a bitter sauce and unleavened bread.  They were to eat this meal standing up, packed, and ready to go.
At midnight, God killed every firstborn child and animal in Egypt.  Those homes where the blood was on the doorposts, God passed by (where Passover came from).  The Egyptians gave their jewels, money, and clothes to the Israelites.   About 2 million people left Egypt that night.
When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. Hosea 11:1
God led the Israelites to the Red Sea.  He went before them with a pillar of cloud during the day, and a pillar of fire at night.

Day 38 Exodus 14-18
The Israelites set up camp by the Red Sea.  The heart of Pharaoh was once again hardened and he came with his whole army.  The Israelites complained, showing once again their lack of trust in the Lord.  The Lord put a pillar of cloud and put it between the Israelites and the Egyptians.  Moses stretched out his staff over the sea.  The Lord sent an east wind that blew all night that separated the waters and made the land dry for them to walk upon.  This is a picture of baptism.
and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 1 Corithians 10:2
Egypt is portrayed as sin and Canaan (where they were headed) as heaven.  The Red Sea coming down upon the Egyptians is symbolized as separation of sin.
After traveling for 3 days, the Israelites had used up all their water.   The water at Marah was bitter, but once again the people complained.  Moses cried out to the Lord, and he showed him a log that he threw in and it made the water good.
As they traveled into the wilderness, they ran out of food.  The Israelites complained once again.  They questioned why they didn’t die is Egypt, but were brought here to starve.  We need to remember that not all of the Israelites were God’s children.  They rebelled against God instead of trusting him.  Without the Lord, the Israelites would have died here had it not been for the manna that God sent for them.
After traveling 3 more days to Rephidim, and again the Israelites blamed Moses for what was happening to them.  They were still filled with sin.  They demanded water, instead of praying for it.  God once again showed them mercy and Moses his the rock with his staff and water came out of the rock.  This is a picture of Christ.
and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:4
At the end of chapter 17, we see how the nation of Amalek (from the line of Esau) attacked them from behind.
Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God.  Deuteronomy 25:17-18
Moses called Joshua to lead the army.  Whenever Moses held up the staff, the Israelites prevailed, but whenever he put his hands down they lost.
In chapter 18, we see Moses reunited with his father-in-law Jethro.
Draw a picture of Moses crossing the Red Sea.

Day 39 Exodus 19-21
We see the Israelites arrive at Mt Horeb (Mt Sinai).  They had been traveling for 3 months.  Moses went up the mountain and listened to God to know what to say to his people.  Moses commanded them to clean themselves and on the third day the Lord would come to them.  God spoke the 10 commandments.  Moses became a mediator between the people and God, since the Israelites were afraid they would die.
Draw a picture of Moses and the 10 commandments.

Day 40 Exodus 22-24
Moses continues to read from the laws from the book of the covenant that he had written.  They told the people how to live and how to treat each other; wives, children, servants, animals, and land.
In chapter 24, we see Moses built an alter at the foot of the mountain and offer burnt offerings to the Lord.  He took some of the blood and threw it on the people as a symbol of the cleansing of their sins.  Then Moses, Aaron and his 2 sons, and 70 other men went on the mountain to eat and drink in the presence of the Lord.

Day 41 Exodus 25-28
In these chapters we see God gave Moses exact directions for building the tabernacle.

Day 42 No Reading

Series: Bible in a Year with your Kids Week #5-FREE Pack

I want to thank each and every one of you that prayed for my little boy last week.  We spent 5 days in 2 different children's hospitals.  We got to come home for almost 18 hours before I took him to follow up with our doctor and he stopped breathing and turned blue in her office.  They never did find anything wrong with him, I am just so happy that we are all under one roof now and seem to be healthy!!

You can catch up with us here.

This week we will be finishing up Job and starting with Exodus.  Here are your printables:

Day 29    Job 25-28

In chapter 25, Bildad gives his third speech.  He agrees with Job that no man can be righteous.  God is altogether holy.  In chapter 26-28, Job uses a series of images that he has no righteousness of his own.  It is a gift from God.  Wisdom is also a gift from God.

Day 30     Job 29-32

Chapters 29-31, we are listening to Job.  In the preceding chapters, Job’s friends are all very close in age to Job.  But, there was a younger friend also present.  In chapter 32, Elihu comes into the conversation.  He is very angry towards Job’s friends.

Day 31     33-36

Elihu continues on with his speech.  He offers to reason with Job.  Elihu blames Job for charging God with unfair.  God can never be unfair.  He is all powerful and all knowing.  He knows all things before they are going to happen.  All things, whether good or bad, are all meant to glorify God.

Day 32     Job 37-40:1-5; Psalm 19

Elihu observes the power of God, how great God is, and how God is to be feared.  In chapter 38, God calls upon Job to answer why he was assigning meaning to the events that took place in his life.  God is asking Job how he can determine what is good and what is bad.  Who are we to argue with God.  In chapter 40:3-5, Job finally realizes that he has gone too far.

Day 33     Job 40:6-24; Job 41-42; Psalm 29

As we conclude the book of Job, we learn that Job repents to God.  All of his questions are gone.  God rebukes Job’s three friends.  God also restored all of Job’s wealth.

Draw a picture of a dinosaur.

Day 34     Exodus 1-4

In Exodus 1, we see that Pharaoh didn't want the Israelites to thrive.  We first see how he made them slaves and forced them to make bricks.  Then he told the midwives to kill all the Egyptian male babies.  They did not because they feared God.
We see Moses born in chapter 2.  His mother could hide him for 3 months and then put him in a basket to float down the river.  The princess who found him called him Moses  “because I drew him out of the water.”    We know very little about the first 40 years of Moses life.

And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds.  Acts 7:22

At age 40, he left the house of Pharaoh.  After a series of events, Moses would not go back to Pharaoh, and his own people didn't want him.  He went to the desert.  In the desert he married Zipporah, Jethro’s daughter.

When Moses was 80 years old, he led Jethro’s sheep toward Mt. Horeb.  He saw a bush that was burning, but was not burning up.  God told him that he was going to take the Israelites out of Egypt just like he promised.  Three times Moses made an excuse to not go back to Egypt.  Moses was weak, but God was merciful.  He promised Moses that he would send Aaron who would be Moses’ speaker.
Draw a picture of a basket in a river.

Blessings for your week!!

Series: Bible in a Year with your Kids Week #4-FREE Pack

Hello!  I pray all of you are enjoying your bible reading and watching your kids soak in the work of God!

As I am writing this, I am sitting here at Children's Hospital with my 3 month old.  If you would be ever so kind to pray for him and for some answers!  The pictures I am posting are screen shots from my computer.  I am unable to upload my son's finished ones since I don't have my camera or the cord to attach it.

Here is your free printable pack:
Week 4

You can also catch up with us here.

Day 22 Job 1-5
We are introduced to Job as a wealthy landowner.  We see how the Lord allows Satan to test Job.  We find that even with the tests, Job still worships God through it all.
Most of the book of Job (chapters 3-37) is a series of speeches by Job and his three friends.  Job's friends are saying that God blesses the righteous and punishes the unrighteous.  In chapter 4-5, Eliphaz suggests that man brings trouble onto himself because God is always fair.
Day 23 Job 6-9
In Job 7, Job believes he doesn't deserve this severe trial since he didn't do anything wrong.  He doesn't criticize God, but he wants to know why so that he can change his own ways.
In chapter 8, Bildad bases his theory on God's character.  He felt like Job had to have done something to deserve this trial.  Job answers in Chapter 9 by maintaining that he was guiltless.

“He who withholds kindness from a friend
forsakes the fear of the Almighty.  Job 6:14

Day 24 Job 10-13
We still see Job not understanding how God could allow him to suffer.  He doesn't want to carry on.  His heart is telling him that this shouldn't be happening, but his faith is telling him that the Lord is not out to tear his chosen down.
In chapter 11, Zophar says that God cannot be tricked and that no sin can be hidden from God.  Job then gets into theology.  He seems to know that God can do all things!
If you haven't yet, now would be a great time to explain to your kids that God only does things for his glory.  Even if we are put through a trial, he is brought to glorification!

Day 25 Job 14-17
In chapter 14, Job is giving his view on life as that of a sufferer.  Job understands that he will only live one life, but he still hasn't figured out that God doesn't reveal everything to us in this life.
In chapter 15, Eliphaz begins the second round of speeches.  He continues saying that God is always fair and that man brings trials upon himself.  Job's argument in Chapter 16, says that his punishment doesn't fit his crime.  Job continues to feel lost and abandoned.  He feels his life is over.  He seems to be getting more and more depressed.

For there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again,
and that its shoots will not cease.  Though its root grow old in the earth,
and its stump die in the soil, yet at the scent of water it will bud
and put out branches like a young plant.  Job 14:7-9

Draw and color a tree.

Day 26 Job 18-21
In chapter 18, Bildad once again tries to tell Job that he must have done something to deserve this trial.  He tells him that it will not stop until he repents.  He will walk in darkness until then.
In chapter 19, we see that Job doesn't see the grave as the end of us.  He has hope for a future but not in the present.
In chapter 20, Zophar gives his second speech continuing that God cannon be tricked and that he sees all sin.
A trap seizes him by the heel;
a snare lays hold of him.
A rope is hidden for him in the ground,
a trap for him in the path.  Job 18:9-10

Day 27 Job 22-24
In chapter 22, Eliphaz tells Job that a person may be able to get away with evil for a bit, but it always catches up with them.  Job continues to want to bring his case before the Lord.  He wants his reputation restored.
Receive instruction from his mouth,
and lay up his words in your heart.  Job 22:22

Day 28 No reading-review!

May you have have a great week digging into the word with your kids and getting closer with our Creator!

Blessings!!

Series: Bible in a Year with your Kids Week #3-FREE Pack

I hope you guys are having as much fun as we are diving into the word of God!  This week you will finish Genesis!!

Here are you printables for the week:

If you would like to catch up with the series, check out here.

Day 15 Genesis 30-33
We find out that Jacob's 7+7 years are over and now he was ready to go home to Canaan.  He was still very poor, even after working all those years.  Laban's flocks were only vast because God had favor with Jacob.  Jacob knew Laban's tricks and knew he had to escape to get away from him.
Jacob continued on to Canaan, but he feared seeing Esau again.  He thought giving him a present would make Esau happy and he would forget that he had told Jacob that he would kill him if he came back to Canaan.
The man we see Jacob wrestling with is God.  God was showing Jacob how weak he was without God by his side.
Jacob settled in the land of Shechem in Canaan.  He knew Esau was still wicked, so he didn't want his family around him.  That is one thing as Christians we should always remember.  We should desire to be with fellow Christians.  We should not be of the world and desire to be around those that are wicked and detest God.  They can only cause harm with our walk with Christ.  That doesn't mean that we should not spread the gospel to the ungodly, it only means that we should watch our steps very closely and do not allow Satan to get a hold of us.

Write the name of Jacob's 13 children.
Day 16 Genesis 34-37
Due to the wickedness Jacob's children had learned while in Shechem, God told him to move to Bethel.  It was here that he was renamed Israel.
In chapter 37, we learn of the jealousy of Jacob's sons towards Joseph.  Jacob loved Joseph the most, so the brothers sold Joseph off to be a slave.  If you remember in Genesis 27, Jacob had tricked his father Isaac by using a coat of Esau and by killing a goat for his meal.  Jacob is now going to be tricked by his own sons who used goat's blood on Joseph's coat to prove to Jacob that he was dead.
Color Joseph's coat of many colors.
Day 17 Genesis 38-40
In chapter 39, we learn that the Egyptians had bought Jacob from the Ishmaelites.  God was with him and protected him.  Potiphar  bought Joseph.  Joseph was a good slave.  Potiphar's wife lied to him and Joseph was thrown into jail.  Psalm 105:18 tells us how Joseph felt.

His feet were hurt with fetters;his neck was put in a collar of iron; Psalm 105:18
The Lord protected Joseph even in jail, and he was made keeper of the prison.  Soon, the kings butler and baker were put in prison.  God enabled Joseph to decipher their dreams.  All he asked in return was for them to remember him to the king, which the butler did not.
Draw a picture of Joseph in jail.

Day 18 Genesis 41-43
Now two years have passed, and the Lord sent Pharaoh a dream.  The butler remembered Joseph and told Pharaoh about him.  Joseph told him about the dream, and Pharaoh knew that Joseph was speaking the truth.  Pharaoh made Joseph ruler over Egypt and gave him a wife.
Joseph had taken care of the storing of food to last them the 7 years of famine.  The ten brothers of Joseph set out from Canaan to Egypt to buy some food from them.  Joseph could have punished them for what they had done, but he chose to see if they were truly sorry for what they had done.  Joseph's brothers had been bothered by their sin for years.  Now, while they are in jail for 3 days they are discussing how all of their problems had stemmed from that one sin.
In Genesis 43, we see that Jacob did not want to send Benjamin back with the others.  Finally, Jacob gives in and sends all of his sons to Egypt.  Jacob had forgotten the promise God had given him in Genesis 35:11.
And God said to him, “I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body.  Genesis 35:11
When the brothers arrive in Egypt, Joseph invited them for dinner.  Simeon was released from jail and joined them.  Joseph tested his brothers to see if they still had jealousy in them.  He gave Benjamin 5 times as much food, but the brothers still seemed happy.
Draw Pharaoh's dream.
Day 19 Genesis 44-46
Now the brothers are ready to leave for Canaan again.  Joseph tested them again and had the steward put his special silver cup in Benjamin's sack.  The brothers set off in the morning and seemed happy.  The steward caught up with them and accused them of stealing the silver cup.  They went back and bowed down to Joseph for the 4th time.  Joseph finally reveals himself and shares that it was not Jacob that had sent them here, but God.
Pharaoh was happy to see that Joseph was a son of a free rich man and invited Jacob and all his sons to come to Egypt to live.  As soon as Jacob seen that all his sons had returned to Canaan, he was happy.  They were all so happy to finally be reunited.
Draw a picture of their trip to Egypt.
Day 20 Genesis 47-50
Now the brothers of Joseph came before Pharaoh and explained to him that all they knew how to do was shepherd.  They asked for the land of Goshen and that is where they settled.  We also see how Jacob share with all his sons for the last time.  When he died, Joseph had him embalmed which would have taken 40 days.  Then, they mourned for 30 more days finally returning to Canaan to bury him with Abraham and Isaac.  After Jacob's death, Joseph still had to remind his brothers that he had forgiven them.  We also see Joseph die and promise his family that God would bring them back to Canaan and to have them bury his bones there.
Draw a picture of one of Jacob's stories.
Day 21 No reading.  Review.

Praying abundant blessings upon your week in the Lord!!
