For this weeks art lesson, I had him cut his name out of construction paper and design it on a piece of paper.  Should have reminded him to make sure his letters weren't backwards!

Geography Monday: Honduras

This week our travels bring us to Honduras!

Here are some things that we learned this week:

1.  Bananas are very important to the economy of Honduras.  They grow very well here with the hot, humid temperature.

2.  Bananas take 9-12 weeks to ripen.

For our adventures in Honduras, we made oven baked sweet plantains.

He cut them evenly and then we put them on a cookie sheet and sprayed them with cooking spray.  We baked them at 450 degrees turning occasionally for 10-15 minutes.

I did put honey on them also and they tasted pretty good!

Lego banana!!

Then he thought it would be a good idea to make it into a banana split!!

Geography Monday: Belize

The week our travels bring us to Belize.

Here are some things that we learned while in Belize:

1.  They are home to world's second largest barrier reef.

2.  Half of Belize is covered by tropical rain forests.

We made bunuelos for Breakfast!

1st you put 1 cup flour, 1 t baking powder, and 1/2 t salt in a bowl and set it aside.

Next, put 1 cup of water and 1/2 c butter in a saucepan until the butter is melted. 

Mix the butter mixture in with the flour mixture.  Then add 3 eggs, mixing well.

Heat oil.  I just used a small saucepan.

I used a cookie scoop to portion it out and a slotted spoon to turn them.

Once the come out drizzle them with honey!!

Very yummy!!

Geography Monday: Guatemala

This weeks travels bring us to Guatemala.  

Here are some fun facts that we learned:

1.  Guatemala has the most population as the other countries of Central America.

2.  Over 50% of the Guatemalan population is of the Mayan empire.

We learned that the ruby-throated hummingbird winters in Guatemala.  We love our hummingbirds in the spring and summer around here.  So, we made this craft using foam.

For our meal from Guatemala, we made Pollo y Pina.  This is from the Eat Your Way Around the World book.  We put it in the crockpot for the day.

That night we made Arroz Guatemalteco to put our Polo y Pico over.  This recipe is found in the New Trip Around the World book.

Yummy!!
