Welcome to week #2 of reading the Word of God with your kids!!  How is it going?  Are your kids excited about the stories they are listening to?  Conner can't wait until I get our bibles out!  I almost forgot one day, and he brought my bible to me and said he didn't want me to forget!  I am so happy he loves this time as much as I do!  I pray for each and everyone of you as you have embarked on this journey.  How awesome!!

Here are your printables for this week:

Week 2

Day 8     Genesis 12-13
Would we be as willing to leave all we have ever known, to go to another place.  Abram did without even a second thought.

I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Genesis 12:3
The promised Messiah!
Chapter 13 is a good time to talk about quarreling.  The root of all quarreling is selfishness and pride.  Lot demonstrated this.  He was unhappy with what God had given him, so he was quarreling with Abram.
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.                           ~Ephesians 4:31-32

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.                                                                                                   ~1 John 2:15-17

Day 9     Genesis 14-16

Chapter 15 talks about God's promise to Abram to keep him safe and save him with the coming Messiah.  He also promised Abram a son.  The cutting of the animals in half was something they did back in those days to make a promise to the other person.  He lined them up in rows opposite each other.  This is a picture of God's friendship.  The vultures coming down and Abram driving them off is a picture of how we keep driving sin away.  When the deep sleep fell on Abram, the horrible darkness was a picture of the dark times to come when the people were in Egypt for 400 years.  When the dream was at the darkest, the smoke coming in was God destroying the wicked and the light is a picture of salvation.  God passing through those dead animals, is a picture of Jesus passing through death for us.

Day 10     Genesis 17-19

God changes Abram's name to Abraham, which means "father of many nations".  Sarai's name was changed to Sarah, which means "princess".  God also promised Abraham a son the next year, he was 100 years old!

Chapter 18 starts with Abraham serving the Lord (the Old Testament Christ) with two angels.  Again, the Lord promises Sarah a son, for which she laughs.  it was hard for her to believe that in her old age, she would have a child.  But, we should always remember that nothing is impossible with God!

Chapter 19, the Lord saves Lot.  He always saves his chosen people.
(for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,                    ~2 Peter 2:8-9

Day 11     Genesis 20-23

Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old when they had their son.  They named him Isaac, which means "laughter".  During the feast at which Isaac was weaned, Ishmael mocked Isaac.

But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.”      ~Galatians 4:30

This mocking made Abraham sad.  God told him to listen to Sarah and he sent them away.  God provided for Hagar and Ishmael with a well of water and he grew up in the desert.

In chapter 22, we learn that God tested Abraham's obedience to Him.  Abraham passed his test, and the Angel of the Lord ( O.T. Christ)  sent a ram to be sacrificed.

Day 12     Genesis 24-26

We now learn of Isaac and Rebekah were married and she gave birth to twins.  Esau was born first, a hunter and a very hairy man.  Then Jacob was born, a peaceful, quiet mam with smooth skin.  The older twin usually was the one that got everything, but not this time.  Jacob got the birthright.  This may seem wrong, how he ended up with both of these, but Jacob was a friend of God, Esau was of the world.

Day 13     Genesis 27-29

Here we learn that Jacob also receives his father's blessing.  Isaac had wanted to go against God and bless Esau.  Because of the strife caused between the family, Jacob left his father's house and went to Paddanaram.  Here he marries Leah and 7 years later he marries Rachel.

Day 14

No plan reading.  Recap for the week if you want.  Enjoy Sunday resting as God commands us.  We always have leftovers or I put a meal in the crockpot so I don't have to be in the kitchen cooking.  It takes some planning, but by tweaking your menu, you can make sure that as a mother, you are also resting as the Lord commands us.  Enjoy your family, sit down and relax, meditate on the Lord, play a Bible game.  Just relax.

See you next week!  Blessings!!

  2. Drawing while you are reading the Bible or telling the story is such a wonderful means of engaging the children. I used to allow my children to draw while I read, or play with flannel graph about the story. The ideas are endless. I found you posting next to me over at Proberbs 31 wife.

  4. Genesis is such a rich book. I used to think that grace was only a New Testament thing, but I've grown to discover God was all about grace in the Old Testament too. It's in all these stories in different ways. Thanks for sharing.
