World Geography Monday: Greenland



This week our travels bring us to Greenland!

Here are some things that we learned this week:

1.  Over 85% of Greenland is covered in a thick sheet of ice all year long.

2.  It is the largest island in the world.

3.  Fishing is the major industry of Greenland.

Whalers in Greenland developed scrimshaws to record stories and observations they wanted to remember.  They made these scrimshaws in ivory.  We carved in soap!

World Geography Monday: Caribbean Islands and the Bahamas



This week our travels bring us to Caribbean Islands and the Bahamas!

Here are some things that we learned this week:

1.  There are about 700 islands that make up the Bahamas.

2.  More than 5 million people come to the Bahamas to vacation yearly.
