Unit 3 we will do in 2 posts. In this post we are going to explore our nervous system and the brain.
You will need the workbook pages to complete some of the experiments. You can download it here.
Lesson 11 The Nervous system
For this lesson, we tested how long it took for our nerves to transmit to our brain to move his hand. He put his hand flat on the stove and I dropped the lego at different heights until we got the right level.
At 31 inches, he was able to move his hand away before he hit it. Now we tried a few more times and his nerves got a lot faster at transmitting to his brain!!
Lesson 12 The Brain
For this lesson, We tested to see which side of his brain was dominant. Remember the Right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body.
Then he put together a brain puzzle. You can find it here. I laminated it and cut it apart.
The workbook has a brain that he colored and we added it to our "man on the fridge"!
Lesson 13 Learning and Thinking
For this lesson I wrote the names of the colors with a different color. He did great telling me what color the words as they were written. He started messing up when I asked him what the words said.
Lesson 14 Reflexes and Nerves
For this lesson, we set out to see how fast he could react.
All I did was hold a ruler from the end and had him hold his thumb and index finger about 2 inches apart close to without touching the bottom of the ruler. I told him that I would let go of the ruler and he was to catch it as fast as he could. We did this 3 times and documented. Each time got faster! We did this with the left hand also! The workbook has a sheet that you can fill out with your information you gather. (See top of page for link!)
