Geography Monday: The Dominican Republic


This week our travels bring us to The Dominican Republic!

Here are some things that we learned this week:

1.  4,000 humpback whales from North America come to the northern coast to have their babies!!

2.  Sugarcane is the main crop of the Dominican Republic.

Geography Monday: Haiti



This week our travels bring us to Haiti!

Here are some things that we learned this week:

1.  Haiti is the poorest country in North and South America.

2.  Many Haitians practice voodoo.

Geography Monday: Cuba



This week our travels bring us to Cuba!

Here are some things that we learned this week:

1.  Baseball is Cuba's national sport and they have on of the best teams in the world.

2.  There are over 200 rivers in Cuba which is the largest of the Caribbean islands.

I did not use Cuban bread, but whole wheat.  Still turned out amazingly!!

Art History Month #7: Michelangelo

This month we studied Michelangelo

Week 1:

We read the book:


Michelangelo
by Mike Venzia


For this project, he drew part of the Sistene Chapel depicting where God gave Adam life.


Then I put it on the underside of our piano bench and had him paint it.


Finished product!


Week 2:

We read the book:


Michelangelo Buonarroti
by Catherine Nichols

For this project, I had him carve out of soap.  He chose a fish and I gave him some ceramic tools.





Week 3:

We read the book:

This weeks art project involved plaster of Paris!!



First, he spread it flat on a piece of cardboard.



After letting it dry, he drew a picture and then painted it.



Finished project!!





Week 4:

For this weeks project he carved a man's face out of clay!
