Homemade Pancake mix

My kids love pancakes!  I have always hated making them, just for the fact that I only make a batch at a time.  Well, after a little it of work, I finally have the perfect recipe to make a bulk batch of pancake mix.

Whole Wheat Pancake Mix
Ingredients:
8 cups flour
1/2 c sugar
3 T baking powder
1.5 T of baking soda
2 t salt

Mix all ingredients together and store.  This will make enough for a half gallon mason jar and 1 batch of pancakes.

Grinding the flour for the mix.

Adding our ingredients.

Stirring.

Pouring in our storage container.

To make one batch of pancakes you need:

2 c pancake mix
1-1/2 c milk
1 egg
2 T oil.

Stir together and cook.

If you want to do 1 serving of pancakes, you need:

2/3 c pancake mix
1/2 c milk
1 small egg
2 t oil

Here is a link to the printable recipe.

DIY Re-mineralizing Toothpaste

I just recently started oil pulling.  I can say that I have gotten used to it and actually enjoy it!

The next step for us in the green living process, was making toothpaste.  I finally got around to it today.

Ingredients:

4 Tablespoons coconut oil (I used unrefined virgin)
2 Tablespoons aluminum free baking soda
3 drops liquid stevia (I used organic from Azure Standard)
-you may need to use more, we don't use a lot of sugar, so we don't need it that sweet
20 drops peppermint essential oil (you could use spearmint)
20 drops trace minerals

Make sure your coconut oil is melted, add your baking soda and mix.

Add your stevia, essential oil, and trace minerals.  Stir again.

Pour into containers.  I used 2-1oz glass containers.

 Let harden.

I put Conner and my names on them.  This was way better that the Jason brand we were using.  Conner, who is 6, loves it also!!

I am learning so much about coconut oil and all its benefits.  Excited to implement even more into our daily regime.

Making Homemade Vanilla Extract

Materials:     1 qt vodka
1 qt mason jar empty and cleaned
24 vanilla beans (I used organic)

First you will cut the vanilla beans in half, leaving the top 1/2 inch uncut.
Put all the beans in the mason jar.

Add the vodka.  You will then sit it in a dark spot and leave it sit for 4-6 months.

Take the vanilla once completed and put it in amber jars to use for baking.

It was well worth the wait!!  Tasted so yummy.  I let mine steep for 5 months and it was perfect.

I put another quart of vodka in with my vanilla beans to see if I can get another batch out of it, so we will see!!  I figure I have enough vanilla to last a year, so it can steep that entire time.

Blessings!!

Homemade granola

I finally found a granola recipe that is not only easy to fix, but also very yummy!

Granola
1 c honey
1 c brown sugar
1/2 c olive oil
1/2 c coconut oil
1 T vanilla
2 t cinnamon
2 T maple syrup
10 c oats
2 c flour
2-3 c each unsweetened coconut
                  flax seed
                  raisins

1st you want to heat the first seven ingredients until melted.  If you need to melt down your coconut oil, just put it in a pot of hot water and it will liquefy.  Don’t worry, it will turn back into a solid soon!

In a bigger bowl, you want to put your oats, flour, coconut, flax seed, and raisins and stir them up.

Then you will add the melted ingredients and stir until mixed well!

Put in baking dishes and  bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.  Put on counter to cool and enjoy!!

We don't buy cereal anymore, so this has been a really nice treat on Sunday mornings when we are trying to get ready for church and I don't have the time to fix eggs or pancakes!

Blessings!!

Homemade deoderant

Made my first batch of homemade deodorant last week.  I had 3 different recipes to try, so I decided to take different ingredients out of each recipe and put them together and make my own recipe.  Wasn't sure if it would pass my husband's test, but it did!  He loves it, which is very awesome!  He has been very reluctant to jump on the green, healthy band wagon.

Homemade Deodorant
1/4 c non aluminum baking powder
1/4 c arrowroot
1 Probiotic capsule
20 drops tea tree essential oil
5 T coconut oil

I actually used 1/2 c baking powder instead of half powder/half arrowroot.  I couldn't for the life of me find my arrowroot.  It turned out awesome  though!  First I put the baking powder and Probiotic capsule in my food processor and mixed it up.  Then I melted my coconut oil and added it to the baking powder and also added the tea tree oil.
One it was mixed up, I used a rubber spatula and filled our old cleaned out deodorant bottles up!
Then I put them in the fridge to hang out for awhile while they hardened up.
They are now sitting on the counter top and we are really enjoying them.  My husband says they smell like tropics.  I am just happy he is loving it and that it is working.  I have trouble getting deodorant to work all day, especially when I am working hard and sweating.  But this one does the trick!

Blessings!

Homemade bath salts

Finally ran out of the gallon jar of bath salts I bought over a year ago!  So,  I made my own!  Way cheaper and you can pick the scent you want to enjoy while you are soaking!!  I put mine in a older style quart canning jar ( I guess you could call vintage).  It was one of my grandma's.

Recipe:
     2 cups Epsom salts
2 cups all natural sea salt (it is pink)
12 drops essential oil (or as many as you desire)
I used lavender essential oil for the calming effect, but you can use any kind you would like!

Put a lid on and shake very well to mix in.  Shake it again the next day a little bit also.  This will store in-defiantly on your shelf.  If you are like me, it won't last to long in the winter!  Put 1/2 cup - 1 cup in your bath tub and sit back and enjoy some "soak" time!

Blessings
