Poppins Book Nook: King Midas and the Golden Touch with Giveaway

This month's theme for Poppins Book Nook is Greek Myths.  We chose the book King Midas and the Golden Touch by Demi.

In the book, King Midas judged a musical contest between Apollo and Pan.  Pan played a pipe of reeds and Apollo played a lyre.  King Midas awarded Pan, even though he played horribly.  So, for our craft, we made a lyre out of cardboard and yarn.

Conner's picture of King Midas's castle.

Mystery of History Lessons 61-63

Lesson 61 Ezekiel

Lesson 62 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego

I put some broken up crayons-red, orange, and yellow and melted them down in the oven.

An object lesson you can add in is using toothpicks.  Put the tooth picks in the melted crayons.  When you take them out they are still toothpicks, they didn't melt.  Just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were protected.

When it cools, pop it out and they have a crayon!

Lesson 63 Buddha

For this lesson, we made a lotus flower.  Use a bowl to make a large circle and then another smaller one.

Then make the petals and cut them out.

Curl the petals with a pencil.

Repeat this process 2 more times.  Then glue the pieces together.
